Lost my copy of my W2 form, need it asap, where can I get it?

would the person who prepared my tax returns still have it?
do I have to contact the IRS?

The employer that issued it is the first an best place to go.

Your tax preparer may or may not have retained a copy. I won't hurt to ask.

The IRS can provide a transcript of your return or an earnings transcript for free. If you need immediate service you'll have to go to the nearest IRS office unless you have access to a fax machine on its own phone line and care to wait about an hour on hold at 1-800-TAX-1040. You can order it by mail using Form 4506-T but it takes about 10 days.
