there's no sales tax in my state (Alaska), so $169.99

There's no such thing as an "American tax" (assuming that's what you were trying to spell).

Many states have sales taxes that they charge to residents of that state. Some cities and towns have local sales taxes as well.

How much tax you'd be charged depends on where you are located and what state the store is in that you're buying from. If you're from outside the country, you may not be charged any tax at all -- but you may have to pay other charges in order to get the merchandise delivered to you where you live.
