Is it legal to put up a "no parking" sign in front of your neighborhood house?

This is a quiet neighborhood. The road is 2 lane but people have to park on the road because they have no garage or driveway. Yes, it can be tight, but there are no city "no parking" signs. So how far into the road does a homeowner own anyway? If everyone in the area put "no parking" signs up, there would be no place at all to park to get home for some.
Can they really legally enforce their own "no parking" sign on a public street?

billogi, I'm the one who thinks this neighbor is being ridiculous and acting as if they control the streets. No bad news for me : )

Your property may extend to the centerline of the road, but the city controls what is called the Right of Way, which extends 20-40 feet from the center of the road. You do not own/control the Right of Way
You do not have a say in who parks where, even if you put up a sign.

Honestly....that would be ridiculous. What would stop somebody from putting up a sign that said "No Parking - within 5280 feet of this sign. Violaters will owe $38,000 to me."
