At 2 months, it will be tough. however, I was 8 months away from my 2 year contract ending. I wanted to get the Omnia for smartphone capabilities. I simply called them up, told them I was going to switch to AT&T and get the iPhone. That seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back. I think it also helped that I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for 7 years now (they mentioned that on the phone). So, I was able to get the Omnia for the discounted price, they gave me an additional $50 credit off that price, and my New Every Two date didn't change (it's still 8/2010, I got the Omnia 12/08).
I think I'm going to pull the same scenario to get the Droid (or Omnia II if it ever comes out). The current Omnia has been largely a disappointment as it's very hard to type with and incredibly laggy. Just threaten to leave for the iPhone, they'll tell you how they have this and that phone, all this coverage. Just hold your ground, they won't let you leave. Subscriber base in the telco and cable industries is the lifeblood of their reporting metrics to shareholders.
