Would this be to much like the Harry Potter books....?

Question

Ok so I have been researching names for a story I'm hoping to write, but I don't want to get told off for copying J.K. Rowling's masterpiece!

So I found names I like, like Draco (I love Draco from Harry Potter)

Would it be plagurism if I used the name Draco for my main character? It will be about magic also.... not like a magic school, but see my other questiom to know what its about....

No, as long as the character is totally different. I don't think it would matter.
Make sure that the characters personality is different, same with looks, and their purpose in the story.
But there are a lot of names out there, so don't stop looking you might find a better one.

Using names would not be plagiarism. But if you copy too many of the things she uses, you could be plagiarizing. Make sure you don't steal the plot either. Make sure the characters have different goals and are doing different things.

it wouldnt be plagerism unless you used their last name like malfoy. it could be like idk martin or something but it wouldnt be plagerism unless you used their whole names.

I think you could get away with using Draco as long as the character is not at all similar to Draco Malfoy, or in extremely minor ways.
Draco is the latin word for Dragon so you might be able to use that in some way?

It wouldn't be plagiarism technically (you can't copyright a name) but it would be very obvious that you're copying. Just think up a new name.
