Modern TRAGIC HERO of today?

Question

okay so i am writing a paper on a modern day tragic hero..and i have narrowed it down to what i think are my best options to write about.
Which one should i choose? and if you could give some specific examples as to why that person is my best bet that would be great!!!

Kurt Cobain
Britney Spears
Oliver North
Michael Jackson
Mike Tyson
Michael Vick

Princess Diana

Princess Diana, for the same reason the girl before me said.

Princess Diana, innocent and helped 3rd world countries. Her death shocked many people and she was so young. I would choose her because she's be easy to be considered a "tragic hero".

Michel Vick is NOT a tragic hero.

Although some of these people could be considered a hero (Princess Diana, Michael Jackson) and some had tragic endings (Diana, Kurt Cobain) they do not possess the traits listed in your link.

Martha Stewart is probably the closest.

1) *Usually* of noble birth--but not in this case

2) Hamartia: The tragic flaw that led to her downfall was her work ethic. She worked extremely hard, made a lot of money and then wanted to make even more money--and she did it via illegal stock deals.

3) Peripetia: The reversal of fortune. She lost an enormous amount of money, her show was cancelled, she lost advertising and book deals, she went to prison.

4) The actions resulted in her self-awareness--that she wasn't above it all--she was more than just a face and a media magnate--she was human and call be prosecuted for her illegal actions.

5) The audience feels pity--Many of her fans felt that she was harshly treated compared to other celebrities who only had to face community service for such things as drugs and guns.

Note: Her downfall was a result of her own free choice (another item listed on the page).
