Prior to WW2 we used to sprinkle artificial snow on our Christmas tree.?

It appeared to be made from mica and a fury like substance. I don't think it was cotton. Was it asbestos?

It might have been.

But I know they sometimes used pieces of cotton batting (otherwise used to stuff homemade quilts) as 'snow' too.
