i own a boxer puppy and he has gotten hives from outbreaks and they told us to give him children's benadryl, i would call a local vet and tell them what kind of pain your dog is having, and if they prescribe hydros don't take them yourself, that's just cruel.

What kind of pain? From injury or illness? How much does he weigh? You may give a low-dose 80mg aspirin if he is a large dog, lesser if its a small breed. Caution when using pain relievers, some dogs forget they had an injury and continue running around, injuring their leg even more. This should do till you get something better from a vet.

81mg of aspirin per 20# of dog. But there must be a limit--I don't know if you could give a 150# dog a whole bunch. There must be a limit per dog on mgs
