Cut off edges on my standard tv?

hello all.
i have a regular tv (not HD) that i play my xbox360 on, my problem is my tv cuts off the edges making many things on my games invisible to me. it also does the same side cut off thing while watching tv. i have tried changing the view format on my xbox360 but that did nothing. i have tried changing the viewing format on my tv and yet nothing works. please help!!!

How can you have a "Viewing format" on your TV and it's NOT HD??

You got that size/aspect button, and it's a 4:3 Picture screen? Well then, NOW YOU'RE TALKING to me.....

So.....guess what....if that is the case here......
