Ford 302 number there sides front the front of the truck to the back.Passenger side is 1-2-3-4 the the drivers side is 5-6-7-8.Pull the #1 plug and rotate the motor until the #1 plug hits the compression stroke, where both intake and exhaust valves and closed. Then place a screw driver in the #1 spark plug hole and slowly rotate the motor clockwise until the screw driver comes up then stops moving. If it starts going back down you've went alil to far. Then wherever your rotor botton is pointing is #1.I've and the same problem many times. Most firing orders on a 302 are 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.Its also possible if someone has rebuilt the motor or its a second hand truck that it has a 351w cam in it.They will interchange.
