I have a 302 ford f150 can't seem top get the timing right on it what am I doing wrong?

got the TDC SET ON 0 ON THE GAGE and the #1 sark plug on the router button

Ford 302 number there sides front the front of the truck to the back.Passenger side is 1-2-3-4 the the drivers side is 5-6-7-8.Pull the #1 plug and rotate the motor until the #1 plug hits the compression stroke,where both intake and exhaust valves and closed.Then place a screw driver in the #1 spark plug hole and slowly rotate the motor clockwise until the screw driver comes up then stops moving.If it starts going back down you've went alil to far.Then wherever your rotor botton is pointing is #1.I've and the same problem many times.Most firing orders on a 302 are 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.Its also possible if someone has rebuilt the motor or its a second hand truck that it has a 351w cam in it.They will interchange.

SO what exactly is happening?? you sure you have the plug wires in correct order

The damper must be set to 0 on the compression stroke - then the rotor button placed on no. 1.
You can find the compression stroke by simply removing the no. 1 plug and have some one cycle the key while you hold your finger over the plug hole - when your finger is blown off the plug hole - move the damper slightly to align the marks - that's the no. 1 one compression stroke.

You must get the timing in sync perfectly on the injected Fords. The injector pulses are regulated by the distributor, and the timing by the cap/rotor. If not exactly on, the injectors will pulse at the wrong time, creating driveability problems. I only know how to do it, not describe it. Follow a good manual to the letter is the best I can tell you.

Are you TDC compression or exhaust? Makes a world of difference.

Be more specific. You can not get the timing to hit on the 6 degree mark or 8 degree mark. What is your problem? Are you trying to put a new timing chain and gears in? If you are trying to set the distributor timing and keep it timed you have a single wire by itself that need to be unhooked. Not the big cluster with several wires in it. The single wire would be for the timing advance. This must be unhooked or the timing will revert back to what it was before you set it with the timing light. Email more specific question.
