The playability of both brands will vary greatly from instument to instrument as the quality control at the factory is generally not the best. I would suggest that you try as many basses as you can lay your hands on and find one that feels good to you. Don't be afraid of the used market either. Playing a bass that doesn't feel good will deter you from practicing more than anything else. Search through consignment stores and pawn shops, particularly those that specialize in instruments and have a guy onsite that can make some decent recommendations. To directly answer you question I would probably lean towards the Lyons brand, but it would depend on how it felt and sounded.
And if the question were actually about car audio, I would lean towards JL Audio or JBL. But it's not...
