If you were a landlord?

Question

Would you rent to a tenant that had dismissed charges on their criminal report?

Charges would be :
larceny of a firearm and breaking and entering(when they were 16yrs old)


Remember the charges are 9 years old and the person has no charges after that and has had a great job for the past 5 yrs and makes enough money in 1 week to pay the monthly rent?????

He's now 25 yrs and has a wife and 2 kids.

It depends on the current attitude . If the person is still acting like a schmuk , no . If this person is a god fearing citizen , yes .

If your credit report, work history and rental history are all good, then yes.

Sure- with good rental history.

I'm more worried about more recent charges and ones that have not been dismissed.

I would give him a chance
His record has been clean and has seemed to turn his life around. You have to remember he was 16 when he did this. A lot of 16 year old guys do dumb things..ok dangerous things.

He has a wife and 2 kids as a motivator to not *** up again.

A better question to ask might be how can the person get the charges off their record. Every state I'm aware of has some sort of a process to get juvenile records expunged or sealed so they don't keep showing up on background reports. 9 years of clean living is usually more than enough to qualify.

If the person with the record is you, I'd suggest talking to an attorney in your area. It's only going to continue to be a problem going forward unless you take care of it.
