I keep getting random text messages from people I dont know??Who could be doing this?

How is this possible? I keep getting text messages from different numbers. It'll be just random messages for instance I received a text message from a number I didn't recognize that said "hi" so I text messaged the number back and the person said she had no idea.. and that she did not text my number.and I have changed my number twice..and only very close friends have my NEW number plus I get calls from unknown numbers and when I call the number back its disconnected what is going on?again I've changed my number twice..who could it be???is this just a coincidence
