Why don't most girls enjoy video games?

Question

It seems as though most girls have very little, if any at all, interest in video games. Those that have some interest in them, usually only enjoy older and simpler games.

Additional Details

Please note that I said "most girls". I know there are those out there who know how to enjoy a good game, but I was wondering why there weren't more! =)

Obviously, there are SOME girls who are obsessed with video games. But addressing your question about the majority, or even just about the portion of girls that don't enjoy video games, my theory is this:

1) because men are much more visually oriented and consequently enjoy more visually stimulating activities,
2) because men are often more aggressive, and most video games involve aggression except the older/simpler games.
3) because men are often more competitive (the whole alpha male thing), and most video games involve competition except the older/simpler games.
4) because you can play video games for hours with someone without ever having to say a word (or at least have a meaningful conversation). Girls tend to enjoy interpersonal communication more than guys. Since most video games don't provide a lot of opportunity for meaningful communication, some girls don't like it as much as they would like other activities like going out for ice cream with their friends, or going shopping.

Actually there's lots of girls starting to play video games..
Got on Halo3 the other day and i saw soo many girls playing in every room i went in.
They play the games for fun... they don't take it seriously though.
Only some do.

i like video games too.. but my brother hogged our system n i wasn't as good as him so he never let me play. so i have the gaming capacity of a 7 year old. not to mention i grew up in nintendo and sega genesis times... just got a system a couple years ago but it takes a lot of practice!

Dude..I agree with Channie. I'm an 18 year old girl and I LOVE! videos games. I own the classic systems like NES, SNES, Sega, N64 and then I have PS2 and a PS3. I play Shooters, RPGs Action and Adven. ALOT of girls love video games. But you wanna know something, alot of us get sick of boy drooling over us because we do like games. We're gamers, but we're still ladies. The ones that usually dont enjoy them are typically sadly the shallow attention wanting ones. Yeah I said that. But seriously, there's a butt load of girl gamers on every system, new and old. Sme girls are just you know...waaaaay too girly. They only like shopping and poodles...that kind of girl..Also girl gamers are not something knew. Girls have been playing video games since Pong.

I have a PS3 and i am so into resistance online. I also have Naruto, Dynasty Warriors 6, Need for speed, Midnight club, and many more. Beat the whole games petty quick. I definatly enjoy video games.

Lol I find it so funny if I'm playing an online game and come across a girl. How do I know? 99% have girl, gurl, chik, roxie or something along those lines in their name. The funny part is watching all the guys in the game try to flirt with them. Girls know that so they make a name where guys can tell they are girls. They can be fat slobs who have a billion diseases and guys wont know. Probably wont care either.
