Help! my dog ate some of my chocolate cup cake?

Question

today i stupidly left more den half eaten piece of chocolate cupcake lying around and my dog ate it. it had sprinkles wit chocolate frosting and chocolate bread. im really scared. she is a puggle 2 years old and she weights about 20-30 pounds. i know there is no vet around here right now so wat can i do?

The saying that Dogs can't have chocolate is a Myth!! IF this is why your concerned than its ok. They can have chocolate. It is recommended that animals do not eat human food, which is where the Myth that dogs will die if they eat chocolate came from. SInce your dog is little, it will probably get an upset stomach and or diareah. give your dog plenty of water and a bland diet if it begins to vomit or to get sick after eating its regular food. If your dogs condition hasn't improved within two days, OR

Take your dog immediatley to its vet if your dog loses control of its bladder, or cannot or is having difficulty sitting, standing or walking!!!!!!
as this is would be due to digestion of unhealthy food for an animal and not because it was chocolate.

try to get her to take a **** she will most likey **** it out cause its not alot, BUT the chances of her dying could be slim to none, i'd wait a few hours till she shits, then, she'll be okay. if she cant theres something wrong.

well normally dogs will just have severe diareah. note cupcakes are more bread than actual chocolate so it should be okay. try to get the dog to drink lots of water

My dog ate a whole package of oreos before and she was fine. She ate every single crumb. Your dog should be fine as long as she doesn't eat a cupcake everyday.

she will probably be alright. dogs dont drop dead after eating a little chocolate OCE. NEVER LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN or it can die. hope the puggle is alright

just make sure she doesnt have any more - chocolate isnt good for dog, but the amount of chocolate in half a cup cake wont hurt her

It's only half a cupcake, I don't think it'll get too serious. If she was eating like massive quantities, then I'd start getting worried.

usually the bigger the dog is the less likely it is for them to get sick or possibly die. my dog is really big and ate half a chocolate cake (it was like from costco or somtin) a while back. she didnt get very sick or anything (no vomiting/ not really bad diarreah) so the size of the cup cake and the size of your dog matters. by your discription though, i wouldnt get all scared and stuff.

Don't worry! Your pup WILL be okay but you should get her to a vet. Some symptoms are...


Hyper excitability
Hyper irritability
Increased heart rate
Restlessness
Increased urination
Muscle tremors
Vomiting
Diarrhea


There is no specific antidote for this poisoning. And the half life of the toxin is 17.5 hours in dogs. Induce vomiting in the first 1-2 hours if the quantity is unknown. Administering activated charcoal may inhibit absorption of the toxin. An anticonvulsant might be indicated if neurological signs are present and needs to be controlled. Oxygen therapy, intravenous medications, and fluids might be needed to protect the heart.

Milk chocolate will often cause diarrhea 12-24 hours after ingestion. This should be treated symptomatically (fluids, etc..) to prevent dehydration.

Contact your Vet immediately! They can help you determine the the proper treatment for your pet.

your dog should be fine. the thing in chocolate that is bad for dogs is theobromine. it is a stimulant in cacao that dogs cant handle. a cupcake doesn't have alot in it because it isn't pure chocolate. it is artificially flavored and has alot of bread and sugar. pure dark chocolate would be bad but the cupcake should be fine for it. it might have some nasty poops but thats about it

Just keep an eye on your dog, unless your dog has an allergic reaction to chocolate it will be just fine. My dog stole a whole tray of chocolate cupcakes off the counter and ate them faster than anyone Ive ever seen. He was just fine. Most cupcakes have such a low grade of chocolate in it it can barely be considered chocolate.

don't worry. A chocolate cupcake actually dosen't have much chocolate in it and unless your dog was 2 pounds and ate a dark chocolate candy bar the size of cue card, i wouldn't worry. Now on the off chance your dog starts having ceisures or severe reactions (throwing up, diahrea etc.) you need to find a vet to go to right away.
