First of all, this shouldn't be in the Homeschool category. Do what you want to do, you'll never be happy otherwise. Trust me, you'll regret it in the long run.

If you are really wanting to become a nurse look at this.
Have you taken any classes in the health department to move toward your career as a nurse?
You are deciding at the last second to become a mechanic, if you decide that you wanted to do this in the first place you could have taken a class like auto-mechanics to help you move toward the carrer path.

You can go directly to a trade or technical school or automative school(dont know witch one for sure off the top of my head right now)

I think the thing your family is most worried about is your future.
Tell them your plans to pursue this carrer.
    i. e. im going to go to (name of school) its going to take me (#) years to get mechanics (degree? Liscence? i dont know witch one it is) then i plan on going to work for (name of company} or you might even plan on opening up your own little buisness. (very easy to start nowdays, but hard to get loan, and keep your buisness thriving in these economic times)
