Do you think that the OFSTED officer may have noticed this?
Today and oftsted officer turned up in our nursery by surprise, the manager was away buying snacks (totally unnecessary) and left five children (two and half old) with her untrained assistant. Also the head teacher ad assistant played the mama mia cd over and over again the whole morning, what do you think the officer would think about this kind of practise

Hi there
I agree with both of these answers. Oftsted are there for a reason and if the centre is being badly managed and the staff child ratio are not in order they would certainly add this on the report. I would question why the tape was being played all day as well if I worked there and why the manager left the centre under staffed.
It does not sound like a great place to work to me so I do not think the officer would have been very pleased with what he saw.

Hopefully the officer would find this appalling and hopefully close you down. Not to be nasty or anything but purely for the safety of those children. They should never be left with some who is inadequate to care for them. Especially when the reason the manager left was for selfish and unjustified reasons. I would like to believe the officer noticed this and will treat it as seriously as it is.

Number one for OFSTED is safety and safe guarding so if the ratio and qualifications for the ratio were incorrect then yes they would have noticed and it will be part of the report. They will want to see why they played the same music all day-look for the educational benefit and the outcomes from it so if there isn’t any or its not relevant that will be noted to. OFSTED know what they are looking for so negatives will be picked up and part of the evaluation process.

children have to be left with suitably qualified people and this is a statutory welfare requirement, as is the ratio of staff to children which is 1 qualified member of staff to 4 children between the age of 2 and 3.
Sounds like your nursery needs to pull it's socks up a lot!!!
Also playing i would question why they felt they had to play the tape - what was the purpose - educational? well being? Sounds to me like they don't know what they are doing and are just trying to 'entertain children' - many training issues here!!!!!!!
