Can a Micro SD adapter take any size micro SDHC card, as long as they are the same brand?

Yes, even brand doesn't matter, nor does SD vs SDHC.

The Micro SD adapter is just a shell that holds the MicroSD card and passively extends the its contacts to the ones on the exterior of the shell.
