Temporary water filters for kitchen sink?

My university accomodation has no filtered water (i.e. with fluoride removed)... Since it is their property I can't get a plumber to play around with the pipes and install a filter. So is there something - like a cap - that I can wrap around the tap head, to trap the added chemicals? How big would this cap be? (I will be sharing the water source with others and I don't want a big chunk contraption hovering over the sink)

Any other tips appreciated

There are several brands of small add-on filters that you can buy starting at about $30. Most require only a few simple turns of your wrist to install or remove. Some have by-pass modes so that you may switch back-and-forth between filtered and non-filtered water. The smallest will fit in the palm of your hand while others are roughly the size of a 24oz can, depending on how "filtered" you want your water to be.
If you still object to any device being mounted on your tap, there are counter-top models about the size of a loaf of bread that you can consider which also are simple to attach and have bypass features.
Check HomeDepot, Lowes or a plumbing/water specialty store and you will find something to satisfy your needs and budget.

*shrugs* most answers referred to Brita which does not remove the fluoride
