How do GPS microchips work?

How do you use them? Are there fees? Can they be attached to an object or do they have to be implanted? Can you follow someone with this microchip? Is this what you need to trace someone? Thank you for your asnwers!

There is no such thing as a GPS microchip. The best you can get for GPS is an external unit with a GSM-GPRS modem, or something tied to a service (which itself uses a cellular modem).
The service would be to communicate the received GPS location to you. You can get loggers you retrieve later, and download the log from. Loggers have no fees. The GPS unit will need to be placed where it can get satellite signal.

Perhaps you are confusing it with RFID, which can be embedded/implanted, but needs to be read with a reader relatively close tot he RFID device, which will not itself provide location info.

Could you give me examples of make that provide this GPS "stuff".
So if I understood, you can place a GPS unit (GSM-GRSM) or attach it to smthing or smone and, by the use of a logger, retrieve its position??
Thank you for the answer above.
