So you buy this thing for $40 at Bestbuy then what call to activate?

do you get a number is it the same area code as in your area?

then you pay the $20 for a whole year?

any bad things about it?

is it similar to skype?

1. You activate online.
2. You get one year included with the $40 purchase price. Each year after costs $20.
3. You probably can get a reasonably local number, or choose a number form anywhere you'd like, which they have available numbers for. I don't know about choosing custom numbers, but I doubt it.

4. It is very similar to Skype, but it does not have an option to make a direct computer to computer VOIP call. You call as if you are calling a POTS line. You can use your computer headset though, and run it with a software interface. You can make or take telephone calls.

5. Good: it is a good value. it is rather portable. Bad: Voice only; don't expect to do digital stuff. Might not work on all phones. Requires your computer be on. Not a suitable replacement to a traditional telephone service.
