Road cyclists! I'm new to cycling. What do I need with me on a long bike ride?

Do I need to carry with me tire levers and spare tubes, a hand pump, a tire repair kit or anything like that while on a long ride? I have a saddle bag to put gear in.

The most important thing you can take is knowledge. How to fix the flat, what tools are needed, how long you can go without needing food and rest. Take water. What do you consider a long ride. 20, 30, 50, 100 miles? Know your limits. Don't bonk. I take water, a couple of bars, cell phone, wallet, and two tubes and the tools to change a flat. Two bars is not enough nutrition to go past 50 miles. If I do 60 or more I stop for lunch. Have fun.

Thanks guys! I've taken your suggestions and have the equipment and supplies I think I'll be needing on hand.
