I am writing a 1,2,3,4,5 paragraph on Edgar Allen Poe and was wondering if that was an independant statement.

Yes it is. As long as a sentence has a subject, a verb, and expresses a complete thought, it is an independent sentence.

it is a indepened sentence becouseit contains a pronoun "I"
