How does ooma (telephone service) work?

I was thinking about getting this service but a little skeptical. Sounds to good to be true. I also have at & t as my phone and internet service. Can I cancel my phone service and still keep my internet. I have DSL so I use my at & t phone line for my DSL.

It is true. Basically you are paying for the service up front with no monthly fees after that. Ooma comes with the main console (ooma telo) which gives you voicemail and one main telephone number and a online account. The ooma package cost around 199.99 to 229.99 at most electronic retail stores. If you already have a phone number in your house that you want to keep, you can port the number over to this device for a one time fee of $39.99.

Ooma does come with one ooma scott (a mini hub). This will give you the function of a second line with a second phone number. Basically you can use two lines simultaneously and receive and place calls at the same time if one line is in use. This however requires that you subscribe to ooma premier for a extra 119.99 a year. It comes with a second line, voice mail forwarding, three way conference call, do not disturb (send to voicemail instantly). Remember that you do not have to subscribe to Ooma scott services and ooma premier this is optional if you need a second telephone line and features.

The main concern with Ooma is that you need a reliable internet connection. The main Ooma telo (or main hub) needs to have a dsl or cable internet connection. Without a internet connection then your telephone services will go down. There are times with Ooma network will be down and notice that Ooma services are not working because of network issues or outages. This has happened about 10 to 15 percent of the time. Not that much frequency.

Voice quality is superb and some people can barely even notice that the call was going from the internet within the United States. However if you are making calls outside of the United States or international then there are some delays or echoes and most people do have problems.

If you A T&T is your service internet connection than you can not cancel your internet connection if you plan on getting Ooma. Ooma requires a internet connection.

What I suggest before anything is don't cancel anything first. If you like you can purchase Ooma and get a new telelphone number. Remember to hook up the hub to your dsl connection. Try it out for a couple of weeks. If you don't like it return it and get a refund.

If you like the ooma service then call A T&T to see if it is possible to cancel your phone service but still keep the dsl internet. Either way you didn't cancel any service yet and still tried out ooma services.
