Richelle Mead -- Succubus books (also she has a teen series "Vampire Academy" that is pretty darn good)

I'll be straight, I'm not a fantasy reader. But first one family member, then a second, nagged me and nagged me and *nagged* me until I read the first book of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. I was hooked. I read them all, then made sure Santa gave me each in hardcover so I could reread them many times, which I have.

    A Game of Thrones
    A Clash of Kings
    A Storm of Swords
    A Feast for Crows
    [more to come]

I don't know if they're available in an audio version, but even if they're not, I strongly recommend the series. It's definitely for adults, with a fantasy world in which magic exists but not everything is magical, by a long shot. There are "adult situations" as well.

Among the strengths of the series is Martin's multiple POVs, each different enough that you know whose you're in even when you weren't paying much attention; a huge cast of characters (and a helpful chart to keep them straight); complex plot which includes political and religious wars in which no one side is right or wrong; a great deal of subtext, so you see more each time you read it; and the willingness to kill major characters as the plot demands.

Mercedes Lackey, mainly her Valdemar Series.
Anne McCaffrey, mainly her Dragonriders of Pern.
I don't think I'd be the same person I am today if I hadn't lost myself in them so many times.
Another good one, if a bit strange is the Rose of the Prophet series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. I know loads of em, but those are good starters.

The Fallen series by Thomas Sniegoski is more for teens but its a VERY interesting read, i know i enjoyed it! (although the last one is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find for less than $100 - took me months! but damn was it worth it!!)

4 books: The Fallen, Leviathan, Aerie, Reckoning

    http://www.sniegoski.com/fallen.html

also by the same author: the Remy Chandler novels

    http://www.sniegoski.com/apocalypse.html

so far 2, a mini story and a 3rd full book coming soon: A Kiss Before the Apocalypse, Dancing on the Head of a Pin, the mini story is in an author compilation titled Mean Streets and the latest book is titled Where Angels Fear to Tread.

if you couldnt guess, they are about angels and extremely interesting!! i have read The Fallen at least 5 times!!
