What was YOUR coping mechanism when someone dear to you died?

I am writing an essay on how the poem Annabel Lee was Edgar Allen Poe's coping mechanism for when his young wife Virginia Clemm died and I need lots of background information about coping mechanisms.

When someone close to you died, how did you react?
How close was your relationship to this person?
Did you self mutilate, exercise your emotions in healthier ways, cry constantly?

I'm sorry for your losses <3

I didn't think about him at all for a while. I forgot he even existed. He died of drug overdose, and I've been too freaked out to find out the details. Lately, I've cried a bit.
We weren't that close, though. We would talk on the phone and hang out every once in a while (but I always saw him at school everyday for 7 hours. That's where the good/crazy times were. He was hilarious.) I didn't know him that well emotionally. He knew me better than I knew him, I think.

Well, I was mentally shut down for the first week, then I went through a "celebrating the lifE" phase, then i tried to cut out everything that had to do with that person, just blocking it out for about a month. now when i think about it, i don't get too upset.
