The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
Funny, witty, complex, set on Earth (England I believe). Told in different POV's, omniscient narrator with Kitty and Nathaniel, and inside when it's Bartimaeus talking (my favorite parts, really). Fantasy, really. Magicians summoning demons, commoners with no magic. Intriguing plot and past. WONDERFUL books.
Read 'em! You HAVE to.
Unless you already have, in which case I apologise.
The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye, Ptolemy's Gate
All other books pale in comparison to Stroud. Even Harry Potter.
Have you read the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer? Now there's a fantastic author.
Artemis Fowl
The Arctic Incident
The Eternity Code
The Opal Deception
The Lost Colony
The Time Paradox
etc
Also, the Farseer Trilogy. A tiny bit archaic, a wonderful, long read. When you're done with them read the Tawny Man Trilogy. And then check out other books from the same author (Robin Hobb)!
Assassin's Apprentice
Royal Assassin
Assassin's Quest
and
Fool's Errand
Golden Fool
Fool's Fate
Hmm, all the protagonists in these books are male.
Probably you should read His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman (yes, a female!).
And that's about it. All are fantasy or mention magic of some kind. Different kinds, every time, which is great. No boredom!
My favorite out of these four would have to be...uh...Well, Robin Hobb and Stroud are kind of hard to choose between.
Hope I helped!
