Well, both of them had a great sense of humour. There is much wit in the novels of jane Austen, and in the plays of Oscar Wilde. In The Importance of Being Earnest in particular there are some striking similiarities, the character of Lady Bracknell is somewhat reminiscent of jane Austen's lady Catherine de Burgh in Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen though did not mock social conventions in the way that Oscar Wilde did, on the whole she upholds the social conventions of her day in her novels rather than criticising them as Oscar Wilde does.
