Question about Harry Potter and the Half Blooded Prince?

I just finished reading Harry Potter and the half blooded prince. Why did J.K. Rowling have Harry and Ginny date for only one or two chapters? What was the point?

Ginny was always in love with Harry ever since she was young. She acted like a shy girl and wouldn't talk to him and would blush every chance she got. Harry only saw Ginny as the girl who liked him and who was his best friend Ron's sister.

When Ginny finally realized that Harry didn't think the same way, she started to go out with other guys, become more outspoken and rebellious, and even friendly with Harry. Her feelings for him never wavered, but she didn't cry over him either. This is when Harry saw the real Ginny after his breakup with Cho and his feelings for her started.

Book 6 had him struggling throughout to come to terms with his emotions and he finally realized that he truly did love her. He only broke up with Ginny because he wanted to protect her and because he didn't want to leave her hanging if he had died.

To some, the relationship had seemed a bit rushed and incomplete, but if you read it on the whole, it makes sense.

dude i know! when i first found out ginny and harry were going to get together i was excited and thought they would be such a cute couple. then i read HBP, and i hate it. the way she made harry all of a sudden out of nowhere like her, then the stupid hurried way they got together, and then only dating for like almost a month then breaking up. plus the way they broke up was horrible to. ron and Hermione's relationship has meaning and had been building up throughout the books, harry and ginny were just thrown together.

anyone else think this relationship had potential and was just written bad? and im NOT saying JK is a bad writer, bcs shes AMAZING! but this relationship...no.

well i dont want to ruin anything for you so its hard to explain.
read this with caution incase i might slip
Ginny was in danger so harry had to break things off right?
he likes ginny through most of the book, right?
well if you love someone then you will protect them. harry was protecting her so he had to break it off but he still loves her. do you really think that they will stay apart?

the point was to show that Harry was a normal boy like any other teenager...and i agree with other ppl who answered that Harry broke up with Ginny because he was trying to protect, which made their relationship seem more realistic and mature.

You'll see the "point" when you read the concluding chapter of the Deathly Hallows.
