Herbert Armstrong was never a Jehovah's Witness.

The WWCG under the Tkach administrations has shrunk to an insignificantly small and powerless group compared to the work the Almighty allowed HWA to do.

Whatever his faults, he did turn many people to the truth about the Sabbath, Holy Days, Heaven, hell, and many other subjects. His writings are still valid starting points for those wishing to learn the real truth of the Bible.

I was a member of Worldwide Church of God for many years where I learnt a lot but found many teachings unbiblical. After Herbert W Armstrong's death Pastor General Joseph Tkach SNR took on many unbiblical teachings of mainstream Christianity which were then continued by Joseph Tkach JNR. I now study from L. Ray Smith's bibletruths.com website and find all he teaches in line with the original scriptures. WWCG in Australia still sends me paperwork and has made no mention of any name change to date.

From what I remember, Herbert W. Armstrong was once a Jehovah's Witness and did not agree with everything that was taught and started his own ministry. He should have stayed where he was at, because they can BACK what they preach. Though many leave this organization due to what appears to be strict policies that they actually practice, they have the means to back up scripture and prove every subject matter that you may have a question regarding. Some of it was upheld in the Supreme Court, due to the fact that they were labeled a cult. IF Mr. Armstrong had good intentions, I doubt that he would have lost his followers, yet people have the tendency to go back to the ways that they were originally taught, even if it is wrong and can be proved so.
But, this is just what I remember of those times and only my opinion.

What's new? One Protestant Church, changing into another?

This is the problem when people start to pick and choose. Also, the "teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong"... Unless he is GOD or of the bride of Christ, he has no authority to teach the faith...

Even Protestants can't even keep themselves together...

I was raised in WCG. I think the change is awesome! It wasn't a Protestant church, it was a cult.
They are no longer Armstrongists. They no longer believe they are 'the one true church'.

They started examining the church's doctrine and realized that the whole belief system was in error and needed to be demolished and that 'you're either going to continue to be a cult, or a Christian', and that the choice needed to be made. They came to believe the Trinity is Biblically based. They realized that faith, grace & Christ, is where they needed to have their identity, and that 'rest' was in Christ, not a 24 hour period of time. They came to realize that they didn't really have a relationship with Jesus, and realized that the Old Covenant really is obsolete, that it really is about grace. (Herbert taught that being saved by grace was "poppycock".)

The majority of the congregation left because, clearly, they did not hold the Word of God above the doctrines of Herbert Armstrong. Those who stayed, were those who did as the Bereans did, they searched and studied the Bible to see if these things were true. They let the Bible speak to them, instead of Herbert Armstrong. Some asked themselves, "What if this is from God and I'm rejecting it?" and prayed to God to reveal the truth to them, to remove the veil from their eyes, if indeed, they had a veil, and their eyes were opened. When they read form the Bible, it was like they were reading a brand new book.

First time I've heard this, but the WWCG left the truth a long time ago, so I do not pay much attention to anything they say or do.
