I need help wording this phrase.. Can someone help me please?

“The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe, and “The something something” by someone someone, present the classic Poe protagonist.

I know the classic sense of the word protagonist would not apply to Montresor or alot of the main characters in Poe's short stories. yet somehow I feel I can use the word protagonist here and it's okay. Anyone have input. I tried to replace protagonist with main character but it didn't work.

Or is there anyway I could work it in stylistically so the reader is aware that I'm making fun of Poe's dark writing by labeling the main character the protagonist?

“The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe, and “The something something” by someone someone,
present the classic Poe quote on quote "protagonist".
or
..............present the classic quote on quote "Poe protagonist".

By adding the "quote on quote" to it....it indicates a sense of sarcasm on the writers point or slight disagreement to the said word or phrase.

thanks. I ended up using quotes but I was averse to it cause it seems like I use them alot in my writing. Just cut down in unnecessary use I guess.
