In A Modest Proposal, how is satire different from other forms of social commentary? How is humor best used...?

to make an academic observation of present situations or offer suggestions for change? Also, for the importance of being earnest by Oscar Wilde?

Satire usually involves observation and commentary; it mocks a given situation or set of attitudes rather than suggests change outright.

However, making fun of those attitudes can cause people who read the satire to become uncomfortable, and that, in turn, can encourage change and reform.

That is assuming that readers understand the satire. The reality is that many people are tone-deaf to satire and therefore take whatever is said quite seriously. The mocking humor is lost on them.
