Does anyone know more about becoming certified as a Medical Coder/Biller?

I'm taking an online program with classes to get you ready for certification. I'm a Military wife, so community college wasn't an option with us moving again soon. I have a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts double majoring in Psychology and History. There are soo many exams out there like the RHIT, CCA, CCS, etc. I know there often given through AHIMA and AAPC, but don't know what I have to have to even take the exams to become certified. Do you have to have an associates in the field? Online it says I have to have 2 years experience to take the exams? I want to become as well rounded and desirable as I can to employers and would take multiple exams if I can. Any clarification on all these tests and requirements would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a career office for spouses on base. I highly suggest paying them a visit. When we first moved to California, I had a bachelors in Accounting but not much else and was having trouble finding a good job. I was very knowledgeable in Microsoft Office but had no proof so the career office set me up with a free Microsoft Office certification test and I got a job almost immediately after that. Plenty of wives get certified in medical billing so I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. Good luck!

The medical environment holds a wealth of different occupations from the obvious nurse and doctor occupations to adminstrative occupations. My sister really wanted to work in this field, but she wasn't sure perfectly what she really wanted to do. She unearthed the website in the resource box below, it has lots of instruction, and it guided her to decide what she really wanted to do. They have assistance with other jobs too.
