Booting a Toshiba Vista (USB)?

I have 2 Vista Toshiba Satellites. One of them is like a year old, and the other one is like a couple of months (with the camera).

My new one needs a bootable device. I tried making some kind of recovery usb from this computer from the control panel, but it keeps telling me that it is in invalid device.

I have a 4GB USB (it's actually an SDHC card but it's converted).

Is website or anything I can do to boot my laptop via USB (not CD/DVD recovery disc).

Remember, I'm trying to do this USB

I guess your computer or laptop is USB bootable. Check your BIOS to see if it is activated. You also need to make your USB stick bootable. You can do it with this free tool from HP: HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8. You can get it from here: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,64963-order,4-page,1-c,peripherals/description.html

I'm guessing from your question that you want to repair or install Windows Vista FROM your USB.

The previous answer gave you a tool to reformat the hard drive, which is NOT what you want.

If that sounds right, you can make your USB bootable and copy the files from a Vista DVD to the USB, and enable USB booting via your computer BIOS. The exact details of making the bootable USB is on the link below.

However, in regard to your BIOS, each computer has a different way to get to it, some use the Delete Key, some use F8 to access it. Go to your computer manufacturer site to find out how, then make the USB the First Boot device.

I'm not too sure, but I think some Toshiba's have an included recovery tool already and a hidden partition in the drive. So when booting you press some keys and you can restore the drive to factory condition including Windows

Do it right, order a set of recovery CD.'s from the manufacturer by model and serial number. Make a boot able CD for it.
