I am going to go out on a limb here.... I think you have the L35 or LF6 SCPI 4.3l V6 in your truck. What 4.8 are you trying to bolt up? Engines of the same family (6g72, 6g74,and 6g75 will all bolt up to same transmission ) but Different families of engine often times will not directly bolt up. so I need to know exactly what model /year engine you want to mate up.

p.s. I want to be clear though, I have never seen a v-8 and v-6 be in same family. Most families just change Cams and Displacement.

this is how you want to go about this:

    1. find out what kind of transmission is in the vehicle that you're getting the 4.8 from.

    2. find out if it is interchangeable with the transmission you have in your truck.

if you're not doing the work yourself this seems like it will probably cost you more than its worth....

get a 305 or 350 for that truck and call it a day!

Yes it will bolt up. The only difference is the upper R hand bolt hole is missing on the block, just leave that one out. The real problem you will run into is that the trans on the 1996 is computer controlled 4l60e the 4.8 uses a 4l60e also but i don't know if the 2 are compatible with each other.
