A riddle: The empty cell...the hanging prisoner..?

Ok.

Police open an empty cell and find a prisoner hanging 6 feet above by his socks

The only other thing in the room is a puddle of water.

So,girls n' boys....how'd he hang himself?

He stood on a big block of ice, and hanged himself when it ultimately melted! That also explains the puddle of water!!!.

Well, it was obviously not empty if they found a guy in it. But I agree that he may have been standing on a block of ice.
