What do you think about slavery?slavery was a sad chapter in history! the africans were highly affected!?

I read a story and maya angelou expressed her sensitivity and emotions during her sojourn to africa...when she passed the cape coast castle she was over whelmed with sadness...post ur feelings towards this topic! I also read a slave narrative by Olaudah Equiano and watched the movie amistad.

Slavery is awful, such a waste of lives. But remember slavery has been around almost as long as man. The only slavery that occurred is not that of African natives to plantations of the western world. The largest era was during the Roman Empire with slaves coming from around the world, however the largest internal slavery occurred during the building of the Great Wall of China. Then of course there were slaves who built the pyramids, mostly Jews for four hundred years.

No race or group has been void of this happening within their midst so no race has more claim than any other. Who is the worse the native that traps his fellow neighbors or natives to sell to the trade or the trader who purchases the ones captured so he in turn may sell to another trader or broker. For every slave there is usually the person who betrays another, the purchaser number one, the transporter and eventually the consumer(the one who works the slave). Be fair when you speak of the subject for it may have been your forefathers that were the trapper or the transporter or the first to purchase or the last to use. The important thing to remember is in Love, no one is a slave. If you will always love your neighbor as yourself, and they love their neighbor as themselves and so on, slavery cannot exist. Then there is God's statement, that revenge is his property, he will repay for the sins of slavery. For worse in today is the slavery of little girls into prostitution being practiced almost all over the Arab world and even in our neighbor Mexico. Much of the Orient is also involved, but love of neighbor would eliminate that--which is like the Love of God.

My thoughts on slavery is that was a horrendous chapter for African americans. History is to be remembered but only to make a point about how awful it was not to make excuses for the way some people may want to act these days. I will always have that sadness in my heart about how horrible it was but I have learned from that and I hold my head up very high because I am proud of that history it is nothing to be ashamed of....I could go on and on but I wont...

Slavery was wrong because it denied people basic human rights, and in North America regarding Blacks, it was a cheap way of boosting economic production.

EDIT: I'm quite sure many people know Africans weren't only affected by slavery, yet, that's not the topic of this question. The question is clearly discussing Africans. As for the thumb-down for my answer, whomever did it, note this; because the question only refers to Africans, I answered the question regarding Africans only. Thus, I believe using Blacks as slaves to better the economy for the Southern colonies was cheap, and human because it denied basic human rights. Even if Africans themselves held slaves, I still believe it's wrong. ALL slavery is wrong, no matter the race. No bias here.

To BikerChick: Sounds like your underlying message is 'screw the Blacks, the Chinese did better.' Well, the Chinese and even Blacks have done well in this country, contrary to common belief. Asians only make up 4% of the American population, and that includes ALL East Asians, not just Chinese. Twelve percent of the Asians are poor, so bad situations effect both races. It just seems Black people's problems get the most attention.

All cultures and continents were affected. Do you think that only Africans were enslaved? Did you ever read the Biblical book of Genesis? It tells the story of Asians, the Israelites, being enslaved by Africans, the Egyptians. Slavery has existed on every continent where man has lived and every race has been enslaved.
Slavery still exists in the form of forced prostitution and believe it or not in the treatment of low wage workers even in supposedly developed nations.
I think slavery is bad.

NOW take a good LONG look at the ADVANCES the Chinese people have made IN THIS COUNTRY compared to the Africans IN THIS COUNTRY, and TELL ME WHY the Africans are STILL where they are today.

You can claim victim for only so long until people get intolerant of hearing it. Time to get over it and MOVE FORWARD.
