Need 2nd novel for Comparison essay?

I have already read the novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and now i have to choose the second novel that i'm going to read. The novel has to be prior to 1900, and I have to write a comparison essay between the two novels.

My first choice is "Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" becasue the share the same theme of living a double life and the idea of moral choice.

However i was suggested "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad and also "The importance of Being Ernest" also by Oscar Wilde. Between which of these novels, do you think would create the best/easiest comparison essay. If there are any other books that are prior to 1900 that you know of, that share the same general ideas/themes as to dorian gray that can create a good comparison novel that would be great, thanks for any help.

I would suggest you go with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It seems like you've already thought about some possible thesis statements. It's also not a bad read.
