Explanation of art quote?

I need different interpretations and explanations of this quote - it's for an art assignment. I have my own, but I'd like to see how other people interpret it.

"Only through art can we emerge from ourselves and know what another person sees." - Marcel Proust.

art shows us that our sense of reality is highly personal, that not everyone experiences life as we do. but it's hard to communicate this in everyday life in everyday words. so art is a great opportunity for its indirect language and use of symbols and suggestion, to create, out of expression, a real view of the artist, and communicate on a different, yet truer, level.

ohkay i took it this way...
have yu ever wondered if others see the world the way you do? like do they see the colors the way we see them and do they see things tht arent physical like life love happiness anger and so on the way we do. if tht makes sense.

but anyway when art comes out its filtered thru the artists perception the way they see the world and we can get a glimpse of tht if only for a second.

tht could possibly be too literall but tht is wht i took frm it.
thts how ive always felt about my art and the art of others.
