Can someone please help - explanation of a quote?

I need different interpretations and explanations of this quote - it's for an art assignment. I have my own, but I'd like to see how other people interpret it.

"Only through art can we emerge from ourselves and know what another person sees." - Marcel Proust.

We all have our own opinion, so this is just my interpretation.

Basically, it means the only way we can understand how others think and feel toward things is through art. Without it, we can only know what our own ideas are and stay very narrow minded.

Art can make us see things in different ways that we didn't consider before.

Without expression and colour we only have equations. A person is more complicated than a mathematical equation. Only with art can we really understand what goes on in another person, through this we can connect with them, understand.
