Well if I travel 40 miles an hour in an hour, then I've traveled 40 miles. Thus, if there are 1760 yards in a mile... Then we multiply that by 40 (1,760 * 40) and the result is 70400

It travels 40 miles in 1 hour.

    40*1760 = 70,400 yards in a hour.

That's because it travels at 40 miles per hour.
So after 1 hour it has done 40 miles.
    And 40 lots of 1760 is 70,400.

    I think you meant 1760yards= 1 mile
so if it travels 40 miles per hour than in one hour it traveled 40 miles with 1760 yards per mile
you multiply 1760 times 40 and get

    70,400 yards in 40 miles
