What kind of pet carrier is best for airplanes?

I am bringing my cat with me to my parents for Christmas. The airline requires 37.5" overall size (8.5" high x 17" long x 12" wide). I am looking at those rolling book bag carriers vs. just the duffle bag type. Any suggestions on what kind of carrier is best for airplane travel?

I assume you are taking the cat on board as a carry-on. Most airlines will require that your pet be placed in an approved soft-sided kennel that has one or more sides with mesh, as well as an absorbent, leak-proof bottom.

Also, make sure the airline you are flying with does not have a limit on kennels that can be taken on board as carry-on, so if it is the case, book your kennel in advance to avoid any disappointment. The airline I work for allows a maximum of 4 carry-on kennel and 4 checked kennels per flight.
