There are several ways to trick the eye into thinking a room is larger than it is. In your case, have you considered a wall mounted or pedestal sink vs. the vessel? The vessel sink will need to sit on some sort of base and this will take up floorspace; visual floorspace as well as actual floorspace. If you're determined to use a vessel sink have you considered setting it on some type of mirrored cabinet/base? Or perhaps a table type base vs. a chest thereby keeping the area under the sink open. Keeping all the colors the same will also give the eye a sense of continuity. For instance, if you choose a white tile, also choose a white sink. Clear glass will also work. Accent colors can be brought in via towels and artwork. As far as tile size goes, there are several ways to approach this. Again, using one size tile will create a sense of seamlessness and more space. How about a 6"x 6" tile for both the floor and walls? The use of the smaller 1"x1" tiles on the walls would also work.
