I am renovating a small bathroom. 6x61/2. Will a vessel sink make the space smaller? What about tile size?

There are several ways to trick the eye into thinking a room is larger than it is. In your case, have you considered a wall mounted or pedestal sink vs. the vessel? The vessel sink will need to sit on some sort of base and this will take up floorspace; visual floorspace as well as actual floorspace. If you're determined to use a vessel sink have you considered setting it on some type of mirrored cabinet/base? Or perhaps a table type base vs. a chest thereby keeping the area under the sink open. Keeping all the colors the same will also give the eye a sense of continuity. For instance, if you choose a white tile, also choose a white sink. Clear glass will also work. Accent colors can be brought in via towels and artwork. As far as tile size goes, there are several ways to approach this. Again, using one size tile will create a sense of seamlessness and more space. How about a 6"x 6" tile for both the floor and walls? The use of the smaller 1"x1" tiles on the walls would also work.

Use a wall hung cabinet (ref #1) to set the vessel sink on. By doing this, you will give the feel of more space. Plus you will have a small amount of storage.

You could go with a 12x12 tile giving more visual space. Setting your tiles on a diagonal will automatically make the area look wider. With the dark wood, a nice travertine in a mocha color would be awesome. You can then add any pop of color you want because your backdrop is dynamic yet neutral.

If you like the vessel sink but not totally in love with contemporary, here is a transitional cabinet (ref #2), although it sits on the floor, it is pretty open underneath. It has a lot of color options...a natural cherry w/absolute black granite would be lovely.

When decorating with fixed products there are a few things to keep in mind. The vessel sink is lovely it's appeal is to a smaller audience. So if you plan on selling in near future, you should weigh you decisions carefully.

    Have fun!

A vessel sink will definitely make your bath room look smaller. Go in for a Hot & Cold Shower Mixer. As far tiles try 8X4 size. this will make your bath room look spacey. Does your bath room has one or two openings. Decide this first and then go for other decorations. A medium sized full length wall mirror will add to your comfort. Seshadri

A vessel sink would be fine and you should use large tile on the floor and small on the walls with light colors. Paint with light colors also.
