What is the Era that the book "The awakening" By Kate Chopin is based on?

OK so I have I paper due for American Literature and I am doing it on the way women have advanced or changed from that era to modern day but I'm not even sure what Era it is???!!! Can anyone help me???? I have googled everything I can think of! (If you can provide me with a link that would be awesome too!)

    Chopin was writing in what would have been considered the current time period for herself. Her most prolific period for writing was about 20 years at the end of the 19th century, the 1880s and 90s. She also wrote of the area she knew best: Louisiana.
