I'd go for a Fiesta 1.25 Zetech... should be able to get a 7-8 year old one with about 50,000 on the clock for that amount. Insurance is pretty cheap and they're reliable and most importantly the parts are cheap when it comes to service them.

Ford KA is the best, they are from £1000 - £2000 maybe a bit more and they are easy to top up with petrol £25 fills it up, you need to look around though for the best deal. My bf's first car is a ford KA and it nips around like nobodies business! its easy to park too because its not huge like a jaguar! However my first car is a vox corsa its okay a bit expensive for a first car at £4500 and its a bit awkward to drive but its okay really! ford KA for the win!

well if i were you, I will go for the car that can saves me fuel and have nice feature and most important is the interior is big. If you were to take a 1.3 might just consider Avante as it saves fuel and is also nice feature.... Try it trust me cos I also drive one too and it really save me time money and space

It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - carquotes.fateback.com

At that price you wont do much better than Ford .Either a fiesta or the escort .Ford dealerships will lower prices if you can show you are paying up front.( thats a secret tip )
