    Hi, I recommend these:

    Crooked house - Agatha Christie
    Ransom - Mark Denning
Don't Look Behing You - (don't remember the author)

I recently started reading novels and It's great fun. These books are fun and thrilling, with murders and detectives!

    Now I love reading.

I haven't read any of those really plus I LOVE Harry Potter so our tastes our different...but i'm thinking you might like:
Bad Kitty -Michele Jaffe (A mystery with romance and alot of humor)
    Here is a review:
Seventeen-year-old Jasmine (Jas) has wanted to be a detective since first grade, but her nose for trouble, as well as her penchant for dusting for fingerprints with eye shadow, drives her father crazy. He forces her to leave a plum police internship behind to go to Las Vegas for the family's summer vacation, but the city turns out to be "an EXCELLENT place to engage in amateur crime fighting." It isn't long before Jas and her three vacation-crashing friends are embroiled in a mystery involving a famous model, her family, and a three-legged cat. Jas, who narrates in breezy first person, is likable, quick-witted, and extremely funny. Her friends are dazzling, quirky quipsters; though they occasionally blend together, as their dialogue is limited to flippant comments, they provide amusing, if sometimes distracting, running commentary. Don't look for plausibility here--everything is irrepressibly larger than life--but readers able to check their disbelief at the door will have a great time.

and other than that my mind is blank.... O_O

I know you said you didn't find fantasy interesting, but i really enjoyed "wings" by Aprilynne Pike, its about a girl who has just moved and is in a new school and finds that she is growing bumps out of her back and doesn't know what they are. The only person she trusts to tell is a kid in her new school. I really liked this book, hope you consider it ;)

Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer
You might not like it too much.

The Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix
Boy who finds a magical clock hand and meets this girl, they go on an adventure, romance? Read it to find out.

    The Supernaturalists by Eoin Colfer
People who can see invisible creatures, I think. Pretty good. Not a long read either. Long enough to be good and interesting though.

Okay so I've read almost every book on this list- and I recently got into 'The Hunger Games'. It is an amazing series by Suzanne Collins, the author of 'Gregor the Overlander'. The blurb might sound a bit strange, but I promise you, 'The Hunger Games," and the sequel, 'Catching Fire,' will definitely be worth your time.
