I am halfway through it right now. The character Sal's life is similar to that of Kerouac's.
It was written in the beat era. Some parts are boring but dint let that stop you from reading it because in my opinion it is worth reading.
Famous musicians such as Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison read the novel many times because they enjoyed it so much and grew up in the beat era.

I read it when I was in college. It is autobiographical and at the time I read it, it was interesting. Considering it was written in the "beatnik" era, the culture was different. So "boring" is a subjective decision. As a look at the culture of the time, it's good.
