Perhaps you should acknowledge the fact that your heartless. I didn't need your criticism, I just needed your opinion. There is a difference between chatting on the internet and an essay. So before you judge people... Wait, why argue? Your clearly much more intellectual and articulate then I am since you know well written grammar.

I agree that you should read all of these books - they are really good.

"The Stranger" - good if you like absurdism, kind of reminds me of Kafka.
"The Inferno" - I like it, but you might not like. It is fascinating but a long, dry read.
"Invisible Man" - A good bet for you, easy to read, speaks of identity and society
"Faust" - another good option for you, entertaining and dark
"Their Eyes were Watching God" - I read this in junior high. Easy to read but poignant. I didn't like how she writes phonetically though.
"Beloved" - this also fits your conditions, it is both gripping and grim
"Bell Jar" - you may like this one a lot, it is probably the easiest and quickest to read. It has an uplifting message at the end, until you realize that it is semi-autobiographical and plath killed herself after its publication.
"Color Purple" - heavy book filled with abuse. It bugged me that celie was so forgiving, even though that is part of what makes her character so dynamic.
"Dorian Gray" - another good option for you. Wilde is an easy to read and amusing writer, and this book is very interesting with a few twists.
"Glass Menagerie" - good if you like reading plays, the lack of superfluous verbosity may appeal to you. Very character-driven.

A Good Man is Hard to Find and The Crying of Lot 49 - haven't read them
