The Night Inside by Nancy Baker (warning, the first book contains some references to necrophilia and it does have some sex scenes that take place on top of corpses and bleeding-out victims)
Those Who Hunt the Night Barbara Hambly (a murder mystery where a vampire forcibly "hires" a human ex spy to find out who is killing the area vampires in their sleep)
Lord of the Dead, Slave to My Thirst by Tom Holland (this is a great, well written series about the poet Lord Byron being made into a vampire instead of actually dying, and it contains a lot of interesting historical myths, like Lilith/Kali)
Salem's Lot by Stephen King (good straight up horror)
Dracula Asylum by Paul Whitcover (a murder mystery where Dracula returns and hunts the grounds of a WW2 hospital for wounded soldiers)
Let Me In by John Lindqvist (the main characters, including the vampire, are like 12 year old children, but is is a great novel and definitely meant for adults)
Fiend, Wounds and Voice of the Blood, & A Drop of Crimson by Jemiah Jefferson (Jemiah Jefferson is probably my favorite writer, she's just supurb. But a warning, her books are bloody, graphic and violent. Her characters are so well developed in charismatic, she can write about them eviscerating entire families with young children, and you're actually cheering them on!)
Vampire Zero, 99 Coffins, 13 Bullets, etc. by David Wellington (these are straight up gorey, horror novels)
Raven by S.A. Swiniarski (a good crime mystery - a cop is turned into a vampire and his wife is murdered. The authorities think he killed his wife, but he goes on a quest to find the vampire who's responsible and kill him)
The Hunger by Whitley Streiber (very interesting story, but hard to describe)
The Strain by Guillermo del Toro & Chuck Hogan (this is a good book, but it really reads more like an apocolyptic zombie novel - just replace the zombies with disgusting vampires who defecate on themselves when they feed, and they feed with a long sucker that comes out of their mouth - it is actually a parasitic worm living in their necks that cause them to be vampires. This is the first book in a future trilogy)
Blood Memories by Barb Hendee (a short read, but a good story about a young recently turned vampire who turned his ailing elderly father because his mother couldn't bear to see him die, but he's becomes more senile and the son turns a young servant girl to be his caretaker and sends them off to fend for themselves without even telling her what she is now)
Peeps (also called Parasite Positive) & the sequel The Last Days were interesting. However, they are very simply written and would definitely qualify as young adult, but you still might enjoy them. These vampires though are the result of a virus - nothing supernatural.
Pretty When She Dies by Rhiannon Frater was pretty good. It's about a college student who was raped and turned into a vampire by an ancient vampire who is bored and likes to create vampires to torment and play games with and then kill them. He's also a necromance and can raise up armies of zombies. It's not high literature, but it was an original story and interesting. I was pretty disappointed in the ending though as is seemed very rushed and it just lost the good momentum the story had going. There's supposed to be a sequel though soon, so hopefully it will pick back up.
Vampire Winter by Lois Tilton (one of my favorites - about a lone vampire trying to survive after a total nuclear disaster wipes out most of the human population)
Anno Dracula series by Kim Newman
Fevre Dream by George Martin
Delicate Dependency by Michael Talbot
In the Blood by Rick Reed
(sorry, I got tired of writing descriptions) ;)
Oh, if you think you might be in the mood for a gritty, sarcastic, dark comedy, you need to read Bottomfeeder by B. H. Fingerman. It's about a guy who wakes up a vampire, but has no idea what happend or what he is. It's sort of a character study in his point of view showing some pretty funny realities of what vampire life would actually be like. This book was so good, I couldn't put it down - I burnt myself cooking while reading it. :)
