I most definitely am a fan of about every phase of Nick Cave's music from when he was in Australia with Boys Next Door in the 70's to his present music too. Yes, I've heard a bunch of his latest tunes and I like it as well, I don't think anyone can go wrong with Nick Cave at any of his time periods and even though his really old stuff in his really old group Boys Next Door sounded a little pop, compared to Birthday Party & Grinderman I like that too besides his tunes with the Bad Seeds definitely too. A way to look at his changes in music is, that it covers different sides to him and sometimes a particular journey he's at in life. He's one of the artists, that comes from a deeper feeling from down in the heart with his songs, but sometimes it takes people down different journeys with his music of course. Now sometimes with his music he's also putting his thoughts and imagination into it. I'd have to agree about what Mark J said about Nick music has been evolving as he's gotten older. I also agree with Mark about Nick definitel doesn't rest on his laurels or/and churns out the same old stuff & that he's bringing something new to the table. I'd say Mark described Nick pretty good that way.
I would also add maybe it's my imagination, but maybe I'm possible hearing a progessive side of Nick lately, besides the fact that he might be especially with the other Grinderman guys working with him even more now - getting back to more harder rockin' again maybe. Also I'd say, I think some reasons for what he's put out going in certain directions is because of his love life as well, besides his dealing with substances, such as periods from up to down, frustrations, periods of more pessimism to more optimism to effects on his thoughts and imagination. Which by the way, a person named Lelly here brought up about his narration for animation, have you seen the narration he did for this short animated film Lelly brings up on this question? -
